Within Temptation可说是一支表现出色的荷兰美声派gothic乐团，汲取前辈The Gathering的悠扬气氛作风，再更专注于乐曲的情感呈现，并以女主唱Sharon飘渺的动人音色为主轴，除了音色更为浑美外，在转音及高音表现上也都更显出色！Witin temptation的分割风格大致可以确定为Gothic rock中的Dark Wave一支。Dark Wave和Gothic Metal同为Gothic Rock即早期哥特音乐的衍生儿。Dark Wave后来又大致分化出四个后代,分别为Ethereal(所谓的仙音）,Medieval,Dark Ambient和Neo classical。Etherea的主要特点是带有十分缥缈、空灵的主音，所以这一派乐队一般都有一位不食人间烟火般的清丽，脱俗的女主唱。而在乐队配乐方面,则会多用键盘营造出一种凄美，哀怨的唯美境界(象Witin temptation的our farewell和forgiven）。近些年Witin temptation的风格也有所改变，他们的新专辑里就尝试了Folk和Power的曲风。象为网游魔域编年史所作的The Howling就带有明显的民谣金属的感觉，而Hands of sorowhe 和What have you done则注入了力量金属的特点。特别What have you done里还出现了吉他手Robert Westhorlt（也就是Shron Den Adel的男友）的男声。
